Art Among the Stacks | May & June: Lorraine Leno

Our next featured artist is Lorraine Leno. Lorraine is a watercolorist who has resided in the Massachusetts area for nearly all her life. Lorraine began searching for release of her emotions at a time when life was quite chaotic and stressful. She was first drawn to art by the sense of peacefulness she felt when admiring other artists’ paintings. She decided to pursue a career in art herself and began studying with area artists. Her style evolved naturally, and her work can be best described as both emotional and vibrant.

Lorraine’s goal is to accurately represent a subject that stirs her heart. She paints a variety of subjects such as land and seascapes, Americana themes, and house portraits. She enjoys painting these subjects because of what they represent to her — land and seascapes symbolizing the beauty of our natural surroundings; house portraits symbolizing the importance of our need to “belong somewhere;” and her Americana life portrayals symbolizing the values and joys and suffering of our way of life. She says whatever the symbolization, art is beauty and self-expression.

About Art Among the Stacks:

We moved some shelving around on the main floor, added a fresh coat of paint to the wall, and voilà… our art gallery is back! Local artists are invited to display their art in a one- or two-month showing at the library. For more information, please view our Local Art Gallery policy. Interested artists can contact Joe Hood, Library Director, at jhood@barrelibrary.org with any questions or to schedule a showing.
